My personal philosophy is based on being very approachable and giving my clients straightforward and practical commercial legal advice to enable them to meet their objectives.

My motivation to be a solicitor first came about as a result of wanting to prove I had got what it takes.

That, along with the fact I didn’t pass the first stage of the air traffic controller exams. In hindsight, I found that I was much better suited to a career in the law. It started at a firm in Coventry (after seeing an advert in the local paper) and some years later Steve Petty and myself set up Feldon Dunsmore in the same city. After a lot of hard work and dedication we are now established as a successful commercial property practice.

The part of my job that I enjoy the most is using my negotiation skills to secure the best possible result for my clients and to have made a valuable contribution in getting a deal over the line whether that be a sale, purchase or lease.

My family are great supporters of mine and although my wife Louise thinks I’m mad to take everything to the extreme she understands (I think) that there is a good reason behind that “networking event” down at the golf course or any other sporting event I can get to. My two daughters and young son are interested in what being a solicitor is all about but can’t really see much excitement in reading a forty odd page lease. They genuinely believe I just sit around all day telling everyone else what to do! Come to think of it, some of my colleagues may have the same opinion.

One word my colleagues would use to describe me is...

Relentless

Biggest achievement that I like to bore people with...

Trekking to Everest (base camp) in 2005 with my wife on a round the world sabbatical after qualifying as a solicitor. It looked easy when Michael Palin did it on the telly but slightly more difficult when you don’t take the correct cold weather gear…

As a follower of Derby County, any pearls of wisdom from the legend Brian Clough but one in particular is:

"I wouldn't say I was the best manager in the business. But I was in the top one"
