Supporting local this Christmas

As December draws closer and following a successful year of charitable events for our chosen charities, we have been trying to think what we can do to support the local community this Christmas. With the cost of living crisis we are very aware this Christmas will be a hard one for many in the local community, including local charities who rely heavily on donations and also local businesses. We will be making donations to our chosen charities Myton Hospice and Guide Dogs in lieu of sending Christmas cards but there are various other ways we will be trying to support the local community this Christmas.

For the last few years, we have collected donations for local foodbanks, this Christmas we will splitting our donations between the Warwick District foodbank and the Coventry foodbank. Both charities have helpfully produced a ‘Reverse Advent Calendar’ detailing the items they are most in need of at this time of year. We have already started collecting donations from colleagues, family and friends and will deliver our donations to both charities in the week commencing 12th December 2022. Such charities are expecting unprecedented demand for their services this year and so if you can assist with making any donations, please let us know and we would be happy to try and collect and deliver donations to these foodbanks on your behalf.

Our chosen local charity this year is Myton Hospice who support people with a wide range of terminal illnesses, and their families from the point of diagnoses to end of life. Myton Hospice have a very special item on their Christmas Wish List this year – a Cuddle Bed – which will enable a patient’s loved one to lie alongside them just like they would in a traditional bed, at a time when they need it most. There are a whole host of events on their website to help them raise the funds they need to buy the bed. As a firm, we will be having a Christmas jumper day to raise funds, donating sweet treats to be given out to patients, families and nurses and several of us will be taking part in Myton Hospice’s Santa Dash in Leamington on 11th December. If you fancy joining us running or walking 5km in a santa suit, then please do sign up! If not, any sponsorship for the members of our team taking part will be greatly appreciated and you can donate via our Myton Hospice just giving page.

One very important way we can all try to support our local community at this time of year is by shopping local for our Christmas presents. Small and independent businesses will be hit by the higher running costs but if we all do our bit to help, by supporting those local businesses, we will be helping the high street and boosting the local community. We are very fortunate to benefit from so many local independent shops, including in both Warwick and Leamington and both are great destinations for a spot of Christmas shopping
